Even your use of the reading log should be used with caution. “I’m so excited to track how many minutes we read this summer and how many books we get to fall in love with. Do you have a goal for how many books you want to read this summer?

Reading Journal Templates
It’s important to teach our children the literature of the past and introduce them to the culturally relevant literature of today. If you’re a parent of school age children… you know what a reading log is. I’ve included a basic book log in black and white and colored versions. Then I have a different styled reading log for kids. A good way to help encourage that love of reading, is to use a reading log.
I would love to down load these but you don’t have june, july, August in the calender for the book logs. When you keep track of the books, you read, you will remember what you read. I can’t tell you how many times I have started to read a book only to discover I had actually read it.

One of the best ways to develop children’s reading skills is to encourage consistent reading. Nightly reading is a great habit to form from a very young age. Try to get younger children to make reading a part of their daily schedule even if it is only a few minutes a day.
Reading is an integral part of learning and working in today’s world, serving as a backbone of education and self-improvement. There’s something so satisfying about crossing items off of your to-do list. Sometimes that pressure of having unchecked items is enough to compel us to do something now instead of putting it off until later. Simply put, a reading log template is a student-kept record of books they’ve read over a specific period. It’s generally sorted by date, and keeps them accountable for reading on a regular basis. And most likely, your child’s teacher has suggested you either download a reading log template… or provided you with one in your child’s homework folder. If you have to keep homeschool records, a book log can be a great resource to use. You can track what books and how many pages your child is reading throughout the year.

Younger kids can read several books each day since their books are shorter.
Your child can also write their name in the center of the page. I went with the hedgehog because my 7-year-old son loves them! Similar to the printable from Mrs. Teachergarten, children simply need to color one book in the stack for everyone that they read. You can download the printable to your computer, or just print it. By the time students reach grades 6 to 8, most are expected to be reading like “young adults”.
You can even print your own reading log and log those reading minutes right along with the kids. Reading at home should become part of your daily habit for you and your children. When children move onto longer books, they might be discouraged by a reading log that tracks number of books read since it can take several days to complete one. Instead, they might prefer a reading log where they can keep track of pages read.
Why Use a Printable Reading Log?
If you’re tracking daily reading, you’ll probably need a few copies each month. A homeschool book log is also a great way to recognize when your child accomplishes progress with their reading. You can also discover what types of books your child is interested in and see their reading progress over time.
