Use a test meter when possible for troubleshooting amplifier problems. Use pan-head screws and not self-tapping screws when you’re mounting items to wood or wood-like materials. Car stereo installation straps are fantastic for custom mounting amplifiers, amplifier boards, and subwoofer boxes to a car. On most aftermarket car stereos a blue output wire is for switching an external amp on and off.

So adding a sub is not just about adding more and deeper bass; rather, a properly integrated subwoofer can improve the overall sound of the system. Would a 6x9" speakers with an 8" sub through the amp and two pc power supplies work? As I ideally don't want to use a battery for the extra power. Solar charging is inaudible while you listen to music, but using a 110v battery charger, you will hear transformer hum in the audio. So best to use your car audio system for music during daylight and not more than 2 hours after sundown.
Routing the Power Wire to the Engine
My advice is to buy a brand name pre-assembled (“preloaded”) or matched subwoofer speaker/box combo. This leaves 2 channels to power front speakers and 2 you can use later for more speakers or bridge for driving a subwoofer. Speaker and power wire marked as “CCA” isnot pure copper wire! Because of the rising cost of copper, manufacturers are now usingcopper-coated aluminum wire, which is lesser quality than pure copper wire . I’ve written a very helpful guide with several of the best amp wiring kits here.
In (1.3 cm) off the free end of the shorter length of power wire. Then, push the exposed end through the opening on the ring terminal. The opposite end of the terminal is a metal ring that fits over the positive terminal on your car's battery. Secure it in place by putting the positive battery cable and nut back in place. If it feels easy to move, tighten the terminal with the Allen key a little more.
Steps
You’ll have more flexibility in the future and won’t have to buy another amplifier. High passcrossover block bass and allow higher-range sounds like music to play while blocking bass that distorts small speakers. For the average person, an amplifier capable of producing 150W for use with a well-matched subwoofer and speaker is adequate.
The most common way of doing this is to hook the amplifier on the top of the subwoofer. When doing this, ensure the hole is the same size as the speaker terminal block you will be installing. Add-ons are a very big moneymaker for car audio stores. Generally, there are only a few reasons why an amp can’t turn on and produce sound, so it’s normally one of a few basic problems like I’ve listed here causing the problem. Make sure you have a good, tight connection without any stray wires sticking out in a way that may lead to a short-circuit. And you’re in the “home stretch” – there’s not much left at this point.
Easy ways to hook up almost any kind of subwoofer
However, if you’re not using an amp to its full capability you can get buy with a smaller power supply. If you’re using a switch you can leave the AC/DC power supply plugged in if you like. When the amp’s remote wire loses its +12V signal, the amp will switch off internally and draw zero power.
This means you are gonna get a bit less power than your amplifier is rated at (some are rated at 12V and at 14,4V, some only at 14.4V). Other alternative is to get 12V power supply for LEDs or other things. These have small potentiometer so you can adjust voltage a bit higher, usually from 11-14V. Hello everybody, recently i bought car amplifier for repair and decided that im gonna replace my Sony XM-4020 that i have been running as my subwoofer amplifier for a year now. I took this opportunity to write instructable on how to properly hook car amplifier for use inside of your house and what you should be careful about.
If possible, push a hole through a firewall wiring harness seal (“grommet”) and push the amp wire through that. You can then find the edge of the carpet which is usually easy to pull back and tuck wire into. I saw this many times, and it’s incredibly disappointing to see. For noticeably louder and better subwoofers, however, it’s best to buy the largest you can that will fit in the space you have. Regarding power, you can likely get by with less if using a small subwoofer (for example an 8″ or another small type of subwoofer in a premade enclosure). A low-pass crossover is a feature that will filter out upper-range sounds and will allow you to play only clean sounding bass.
If using speaker level inputs from a factory system connect them now. They should be labeled and/or color-coded to make it more clear. Bundle your power and cable wires together neatly like this. To save money you can space out zip ties roughly 12″ or so apart to avoid using too many. The ties hold wiring in place, make it more manageable, and help keep things from moving around over time. Honestly, getting the wire to the battery is usually the toughest part you’ll face.
Note that a car subwoofer is suitable for connecting to only 12-volt power which is generated by the car battery. But such low voltage is not there in the home theater sound system. Home theater sound systems usually give a 110V power output. Connecting to high power would simply blow the car subwoofer.
Try to allow enough time for daylight and to avoid rushing your work, especially if it’s your first time doing your own car audio installation. If you get stressed because of time you’re more likely to make mistakes and have to redo something later. Better to plan well or stop and pick back up the next day. If you can, however, borrowing a friend’s is a huge help.
